Unbound Word is primarily a product of Buck Griffith's involvement in 1971 in Jail-Prison Ministry. At that time, there were few "offender-friendly" teaching products available. The premise has always been: "Changing a way of thinking to change a way of living." In the years since a multitude of instructional tools have been developed - written by offenders, ex-offenders or experienced workers in this field.

Beginning in 1988 and with the advent of Christians Against Substance Abuse (CASA), a large variety of instructional tools have been produced to assist those struggling to overcome chemical addictions. These also have been written by recovering addicts or experienced workers in this field.

More recently, instructional materials have been developed to facilitate Senior Adult Ministries. All three of these ministries share common traits: Each usually is neglected, overlooked, forgotten and written off. Still, the response is gratifying when effort is made to minister to them. Thus, the rewards far out-weigh the negatives for those willing to become involved in outreach.
